  1. Bel dibunyikan lima belas menit mendahului suatu kegiatan untuk member kesempatan kepada semua yogi untuk dapat berjalan dengan pelan ke tempat yang dituju. (Bel strikes fifteen minutes before certain activity takes place to enable all yogis to walk slowly to the assigned place.)
  2.  Semua yogi harus menyelesaikan makan mereka dala jangka waktu satu jam. Untuk itu datanglah ke tempat makan pada waktunya. All yogis must finish their breakfast or lunch during one hour meal time. Thereofre please arrive at the dining place in time.
  3. Dalam latihan meditasi ini tidak ada tidur siang, bilamana anda sakit laporkan kepada Dhamma volunteer.  In this meditation practice no sleep during day time, in case you are sick, please report to the Dhamma volunteer.
  4. Menghadiri Dhammatalk adalah keharusan bagi semua perserta. (All yogis must attend the Dhammatalk).
  5. Interview adalah sebagai ganti Dhammatalk, jadwalnya ditentukan oleh guru. Datanglah lebi awal di depan tempat guru dan praktekkan meditasi jalan sambil menungu giliran anda. (Interview is alternative to Dhammatalk, and the schedule will be determined by the teacher. Please arrive earlier in front of teacher’s place for interview and practice walking meditation while waiting for your turn).
  6.  Jadwal ini adalah jadwal untuk retreat meditasi intensif (This schedule is for Intensive Meditation Retreat).
  7. Gunakan waktu anda sebaik-baiknya dalam retreat ini (Make the best use of your time in this retreat).

Code of Conduct and Discipline for Vipassana Meditation Retreat

Please read this Code of Conduct and Discipline for participants carefully to the end before registration


  1. This meditation practice  necessitates morality as foundation to support  concentration  and  bare attention (sati); therefore, participant is to observe the eight precepts (atthangasila) or the nine precepts (navangasila)as discipline.  These precepts will be explained by instructor or teacher at the opening session.
  2. This meditation  technique  is not a relaxation exercise. Participant should prepare him/herself in such away  in order to be able to practice the meditation  seriously.  As participant, you must make a solemn decision to follow this ten-days meditation  until end of the course.
  3. In order to gain proper results in this meditation practice, you are required to surrender your self  to the meditation technique (only during the meditation course); therefore, you are not allowed  :
    – To practice other meditation technique during these ten days meditation.
    – To practice sports or exercises such as, Yoga, Taichi, Jogging,, etc.
  4. To maintain and sustain your concentration and bare attention (sati), you must also avoid reading and writing  since these activities will disturb your awareness.
  5. Along this meditation course you must avoid performing any rituals, offerings, other techniques such as beads counting, chanting mantras,  chanting parittas, and activities such as singing, dancing, etc.  You must have confidence in teacher as well as in this meditation technique.
  6. Do not go out of  Brahmavihara arama area.
  7. To talk or discuss about your meditation practice only with teacher or assistant teacher.  You must not discuss your  meditation practice with dhamma worker (servant of the dhamma).
  8. Keep the noble silence, from day one to day ten. Do not speak to or make any gesture to  other participants or visitors of the temple. Keeping the noble silence will help you in maintaining balance and focus of your mind.
  9. All participants must wake up early in the morning at 4.00 a.m  when the wake up bell strikes and you may  retire to your room to sleep at 22.00 p.m.
  10. Should you have any complaint or urgent inquiry, you should report to dhamma worker.
  11. Avoid any physical contact with other meditator or dhamma worker of either sex, when your are walking ,passing in any place.
  12. No smoking. Avoid any smoking during this training, including in your residence (sleeping room), in the bathroom or in any other remote places.

In the meditation room

  1. Female participants will occupy  upper Dhammasala and its surrounding, and male participants  will occupy the stupa and its surrounding.
  2. In the meditation room, participant is not allowed to use any alarm.
  3. Sitting cushion is provided for sitting meditation.

During dhamma-talk

  1. Dhamma-talk will take place in upper Dhammasala. Dhamma-talk starts at 19.00 p.m.
  2. Schedule for dhamma-talk as arranged by the teacher is announced on announcement  board.
  3. All participants will enter the hall before the teacher arrives, as the bell strikes.
  4. On entering the hall, female participants will go through left entrance and male participants will go through right entrance.
  5. Female participants will sit on the left side and male participants will sit on the right  side in the hall.
  6. At each dhamma-talk, meditators will renew their precepts, therefore, provide your self with text of the precepts.


  1. Schedule will be arranged by the teacher ( see the announcement board).
  2. Place for interview, at the front of teacher’s residence.
  3. Names of yogis for interview , please see the announcement board.
  4. Participant who needs additional interview is to report to the organizer.
  5. In interview, just describe your experience in meditation in brief, do not relate your personal stories.  The time given  is 10 minutes.
  6. To wait  your turn for interview, approach teacher’s place in ten minutes. Keep meditating by walking or just sit calmly to wait.
  7. Pay your respect to the teacher by prostrating one time, at the start and after the interview.

In the Dining Place.

  1. Participant is not allowed to order directly any meals or drinks to the kitchen. Yogi has to accept whatever meals served by the center as part of his/her training. Should you have any health problem which requires special meals, please report to the dhamma worker., who will discuss further with the teacher.
  2. Bell for morning meal will strikes at 5.45 a.m,’ take your meal at 6.00 to 7.00. Bell. Lunch time bell at 10.45 a.m, take your meal at 11.00 to 12.00. In case you fail to take your meals between those times, meals or drinks are not provided out of the schedule.
  3. Meals are served as buffet.

In your residence.

  1. In your residence keep the noble silence, do not speak or chatter with your roommate.
  2. Keep your  place clean, do not litter or spilt around.
  3. Avoid smoking even in the remote place of your residence.
  4. You are not allowed to store foods or drinks in your bed room.

Obeying the eight or nine precepts is a must, especially for those retreats with Buddhist Monk (Bhikkhu) as teacher.

Sayadaw U Rajinda, About

Sayadaw U Rajinda, a Burmese Bhante has lived in Singapore for the last 12 years teaching meditation, Dhamma and the Abhidhamma. A practitioner of the Mahasi Method, his simple spoken English has benefited many with his personal insights. Bhante is the founder of the Satipatthana Meditation Centre (SMC) in Singapore and has been serving as its Religious Advisor ever since.

Sayadaw U Rajinda was born on 30 November 1949 in Shwebo District, Myanmar. He became a novice monk (Samanera) at the age of 10 and then a fully ordained monk (Bikkhu) of Theravada Monastic Order at the age of 20. After receiving the degree, Sasanadhajha Dhamma Cariya in Pali Scriptures in 1983, he taught Buddhist Scriptures for 2 years in Ye-U Town. This religious service was done as his gratitude to his learned teachers from Ye-U.

In 1986, the Sayadaw went to the Main Mahasi Meditation Centre in Yangon to practise Vipassana meditation, strictly following the techniques devised by Mahasi Sayadaw. He then served at the Centre for 2 years in various capacities under the supervision of Sayadaw U Panditabhivamsa.

He was sent to Penang in 1990 to teach meditation at the Malaysia Buddhist Meditation Centre, where he served for 3 years. He came to Singapore as the Religious Advisor to the Buddha Dhamma Mandala Society in 1993. He was also instrumental to the birth of the Vipassana Meditation Centre in Singapore. Since 1999 he has been providing religious support to Bodhirama Estate (KKB), a branch of the Selangor Buddhist Vipassana Meditation Society.

At the request of many oversea devotees to conduct meditation sessions, Sayadaw has traveled to Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and the USA.

Sayadaw founded the Satipatthana Meditation Centre (SMC) in April 2004, and has been serving as its Religious Advisor since. He also serves as the religious advisor to Shwe-pyi-aye Meditation Centre in Insein, Yangon and acted as a patron to the free medical clinic for Sangas at Khinmakan Monastery in Mandalay. Recently, he has completed a project of building a free medical clinic for the people of Thawutthi Village, his birthplace.

Fungsi Brahmavihara Arama

Sesuai dengan latar belakang dan cita-cita pendirian Brahma Vihara sejak di desa Banjar hingga kini menjadi Brahmavihara Arama, maka fungsinya adalah sebagai berikut:

– Sebagai tempat tinggal para Bhikkhu
– Sebagai tempat sembahyang, praktek bakti umat Buddha
– Sebagai tempat pembabaran Dharma/dhamma dan meditasi
– Sebagai tempat menggali dan mengembangkan spiritualitas
– Sebagai sarana sosial kemasyarakatan.

Dari fungsi-fungsi tersebut Brahmavihara Arama telah didesign sedemikian rupa sebagai visualisasi, tahapan-tahapan praktek yang harus dilaksanakan untuk mencapai tujuan yaitu Nirwana.

Brahmavihara Arama ke Depan

Tahun 2009 genap 30 tahun usia BVA. Selama 38 tahun pula pembangunan teras dilaksanakan hingga kini, meski Bhante Girirakkhito telah tiada pembangunan terus berlanjut. Ini mencerminkan laju pembangunan BVA cukup lamban, meski demikian kita tetap setia dan bersemangat untuk mewujudkan cita-cita Bhante Girirakkhito guna menjadikan BVA sebagai tempat pelatihan meditasi (Vipasana). Kesetiaan kita mengabdi kepada dhamma merupakan wujud bakti dan terimakasih kita terhadap Tri Ratna pada umumnya serta kepada almarhum Bhante Girirakkhito yang telah mewujudkan ajaran / dhamma kepada kita.
Untuk mewujudkan cita-cita Bhante Girirakkhito menjadikan BVA sebagai tempat pelatihan meditasi. sejak dua tahun lalu telah dibangun bangunan stupa yang dibawahnya dapat digunakan sebagai ruang meditasi. Disebelah barat bangunan stupa akan dibangun kuti-kuti/ asrama untuk tempat tinggal para Bhikku dan peserta meditasi yang akan dilengkapi dapur dan ruang makan. Sebagai penunjang juga akan dibangun perpustakaan dan ruang pertemuan. Semua ini akan dapat terwujud bila kita semua yang pernah dibimbing dan mendapat kasih sayang Bhante secara sadar dan iklas berpartisipasi.
BVA yang berdiri di areal seluas ±_4 hektar secara geografis memenuhi syarat dan kondusif untuk menjadi salah satu pusat meditasi di Indonesia.
Untuk keperluan itu BVA yang kini dikelola oleh Yayasan Girirakkhito Mahathera telah menetapkan Bhante Tita Kethuko Thera sebagai Ketua Utama Vihara sekaligus sebagai instruktur meditasi dan dibantu oleh Bhante Urudha Dhammapiya serta beberapa Bhikku-bhikku muda lainnya.
